PANORAMA PARK TILE Art PROJECT
In the summer of 2020, Jeresneyka Rose, of ArtByRizzo, partnered with Trust for Public Land, Pikes Peak Library District and the City of Colorado Springs for the tile art project at Panorama Park. The beautiful tile art mosaics were designed by Jordan Romero and Jenny Mehta with input from the Southeast Colorado Springs, CO community. Shortly after the design process, Rizzo was brought on board to organize and facilitate all aspects of the tile art project, from mixing, rolling and firing clay to hosting and instructing tile art workshops. Thank you to all of the community members who joined the public workshops, pop ups and small group sessions to help us decorate the 7,200 tiles needed for this project!
Up close, each tile has it’s own personalized touch. From afar, the tiles come together to create two beautiful mosaics that celebrate the diversity and unity of Southeast Colorado Springs. The themes of the mosaics are “Stepping Into Our Power” and “Sharing Our Light.” They are permanent features in the newly renovated park.
With the help of Pikes Peak Library staff, volunteers and thousands of community members, the tile art project was completed over a 2 year span. As of fall 2022, both tile art murals are complete and on public display in Panorama Park. The park is located in Southeast Colorado Springs, adjacent to Panorama Middle School, at 4540 Fenton Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80916.
